The IPL 2026 encounter between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), that was played on April 23 in Mumbai, saw the hosts suffer a humiliating loss at the hands of their biggest rival.
MI sent Chennai in to bat first, and Sanju Samson led the way with 101* in 54 balls, including 10 fours and 6 sixes. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 22 and Dewald Brevis 21 as CSK amassed 207/6, thanks to Samson's second century of the IPL.
In response, the CSK bowlers destroyed the MI batting lineup, with just Suryakumar Yadav (35) and Tilak Varma (37) surviving the onslaught. Akeal Hosein grabbed 4/17, with Noor Ahmad taking 2 wickets, as MI was bowled out for 104 runs and CSK won by 103 runs.
A heated incident took place between MI’s Tilak Varma and CSK’s Jamie Overton after the final ball of the 10th over. The two exchanged some heated words and made some gestures, clearly showing some displeasure at one another.
Tilak had poked the ball towards midwicket in an attempt to score a second run, but he was sent back by batting partner Suryakumar Yadav. Tilak had to swing past Overton at this point to gain ground, as the English all-rounder was waiting at the non-striker's end to catch the toss.
Following this, the two got into a heated argument, but the specifics of their spat are unknown. Suryakumar Yadav joined in on the conversation, and the on-field umpires also intervened.
