The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured a big victory over the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) on Saturday. SRH won the game by 54 runs in the end and are now placed fourth in the IPL 2026 points table with 3 wins and 3 losses in 6 games and 6 points.
SRH posted 194/9 in 20 overs with Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen scoring 59 runs each. In response, CSK only managed 184/8 despite valuable contributions from Matt Short, Ayush Mhatre, and Sarfaraz Khan.
A video went viral on social media during the match, where a fan wearing an SRH shirt was doing some ritual by muttering something into a lemon and then making some gestures towards the batter. Shivam Dube, the batter on strike, got out the very next ball, and fans called the SRH follower’s gesture black magic.
This led to someone posting a fake letter from CSK on the matter and complaining to the IPL board.
Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi dismissed the claim, calling the letter 'false', but said that one franchise owner had previously performed 'superstitious rites'.
"Seems fake this time. But one team owner did indulge in this type of practice," Lalit Modi wrote in his post.
"I remember I posted about a team owner doing this to the opposing team, by doing exactly this themselves in the opposing team's dressing room. I even alerted the opposing team owners about this way back in the 2011 season, when it happened, and I received an alert with concrete proof. I will reveal all these types of activities, and who conducted them, in the movie or TV series as decided by my team," he further added.
