Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have formally complained to the BCCI regarding the DJ’s conduct during their IPL 2026 fixture against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 5, citing the playing of a stereotyping 'Dosa, idli, sambar, chutney, chutney ' song and inappropriate comments.
A top IPL official confirmed the development and said that the governing council is investigating the complaint.
“We have received a complaint from CSK and are looking into it,” the official quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
The track, which is often used in memes, was played before the CSK innings, which the team deemed in poor taste, alongside allegedly disrespectful remarks made towards their players.
CSK managing director Kasi Viswanathan also commented on the matter. “The DJs are usually around to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Certain comments were made against our players. Considering it, we have written to the BCCI to have a look into it,” Viswanathan said, as quoted by the same publication.
The song, composed by musician Gana Appu, has become a contentious element in the CSK-RCB rivalry. Last year, RCB shared a video of wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma singing this song before a match against CSK. He faced significant backlash from the Chennai fans for the comment.
“After that incident, there hasn't been any repeat of it. The DJ isn't supposed to make any comment on the opposition players. Moreover, we are fortunate to have a lovely fanbase that cheers us in numbers,” Viswanathan stated.
The CSK team management was also not happy with the comments made by the DJ on the public address system when their wickets fell at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. “They are not there to undermine the rivals or insult them,” a CSK official said.
The rivalry between CSK and RCB has grown more intense over the years, with this incident highlighting the sensitive nature of banter and the use of regional stereotypes.
RCB are currently leading the IPL 2026 table with 8 points from 5 matches, while CSK sit in the lower half of the table, specifically eighth, with 4 points from 5 matches.
