Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan has confirmed that MS Dhoni will miss the franchise’s upcoming encounter in the IPL 2026 tournament. He has also given an update on the fitness of CSK’s South African import, Dewald Brevis.

MS Dhoni suffered a calf strain during practice before CSK’s maiden IPL 2026 game and has missed all three matches the team has played thus far. Unfortunately for CSK, they have also lost all three games they’ve played till now.

As of Tuesday (April 7), the CSK talisman was still far from match fitness, and there is no word on whether he would be ready to play against the Delhi Capitals on April 11. Over the next seven days, the CSK will host two teams at Chepauk: the Delhi Capitals on April 11 and the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14.

He is almost certain to miss the Delhi Capitals game, and the chances are stacked against him even making the KKR match, as CSK waits for their former captain to lend experience to a campaign that has failed to impress in the first three games.

Dhoni has been receiving rehab for a calf muscle issue, and he may require at least one more week to be ready to play.

"MS is undergoing rehab, and it will take some time. We can't say how much time,” said CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan as quoted by Cricbuzz.

The report further added that Dhoni is currently in Chennai with his family, undergoing rehabilitation under the supervision of a dedicated CSK support team, which includes a physio and a masseuse. He also had batting practice at the CSK nets a few days ago. 

Apart from MS Dhoni, Viswanathan also gave an update on Dewald Brevis, who suffered a side strain and has not played a single game in IPL 2026.

"We are hoping he will be available for the next game, but that will depend on how he progresses. We have a few days before the next game,” he added.

Dhoni has decided not to travel with the side for their away games—be it to Guwahati on March 30 or to Bengaluru on April 5.
