Arch-rivals Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clashed on April 5, 2026, in the IPL 2026. RCB, who had won their first game of the season against Sunrisers Hyderabad, hosted CSK at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK captain, won the toss and chose to bowl first. However, the decision backfired as RCB batters came hard at the CSK bowlers. Virat Kohli made 28 in 18 balls, and Phil Salt made 46 in 30 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes.
However, the three following batters routed the CSK bowling. Devdutt Paddikal made 50 in 29 balls, but it was Rajat Patidar and Tim David who hammered the CSK bowlers, adding 99 unbeaten runs in just 36 balls.
Patidar made 48* in 19 balls with 6 sixes and one four, while Tim David scored 70* in 25 balls with 3 fours and 8 sixes to his name. RCB ended their 20 overs on 250/3.
With RCB playing after a long break, all focus was on Virat Kohli and also his wife, Bollywood diva Anushka Sharma, who was cheering for him and the RCB side in the stands. Kohli hit two fours and one six during his time at the crease, and he and Phil Salt combined 37 runs in 4.3 overs for the first wicket.
Kohli got his only six of his knock on the second delivery of RCB's fourth over, delivered by Matt Henry. After Kohli hit the amazing no-look six, the camera panned towards Anushka in the stands, and in a video that has gone viral, she can be seen smiling broadly and clapping for the great batter.

Though he didn’t make many runs, Kohli did achieve another record in IPL. Kohli broke the record for the most runs scored against a single side in both the IPL and T20s. Kohli, the IPL's all-time leading run scorer, has 1188 runs versus CSK in 37 T20 matches and 1174 runs in 36 IPL matches.
Currently ranked second on the list is Rohit Sharma, who has scored 1161 runs in 36 T20 outings against the Kolkata Knight Riders thus far.
