Sameer Rizvi continued his stellar run of form to script Delhi Capitals’ (DC) six-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2026 at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday (April 4).
Asked to bat first, MI got off to a shaky start after losing two early wickets. However, Rohit Sharma steadied the innings with a composed knock of 35 (26 balls). Stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav then took charge, scoring a half-century (51 off 36) to propel MI to 162/6 in 20 overs.
For DC, Mukesh Kumar was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Lungi Ngidi, Axar Patel, and Vipraj Nigam chipped in with one scalp each.
Chasing 163 to win on a slow wicket, the Capitals lost KL Rahul (1) and Nitish Rana (0) in the first two overs. However, Pathum Nissanka and Rizvi added 66 runs for the third wicket to put the hosts in the driver’s seat.
After Nissanka’s dismissal on 44 (30 balls), Rizvi was joined by David Miller at the crease. The duo stitched a 78-run partnership, with Rizvi scoring the bulk of runs and eventually for a match-defining 90 off 51 balls, including 7 fours and 7 sixes.
In the end, Miller (21* off 18) and Tristan Stubbs (3* off 4) completed formalities, sealing the deal for DC with 11 deliveries to spare.
Sameer Rizvi's fearless knock as an Impact Player was lauded the cricket fraternity members on social media.
