In a major development, Mumbai Indians (MI) pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has checked into the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru ahead of the IPL 2026 season, ESPNCricinfo reported on Wednesday (March 25).
According to the report, Bumrah is not battling any injury and he is at the CoE primarily to work on strength and conditioning.
The ace pacer will reportedly be available for MI’s campaign opener against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 29 at the Wankhede Stadium.
“It is understood that the plan for Bumrah to work at CoE has been devised by the BCCI medical team with the focus on India's white-ball tour of England in July where they will play five T20Is and three ODIs,” the report stated.
“Bumrah is understood to be continuing bowling at CoE and will join Mumbai Indians soon to be ready to play their first match of IPL 2026,” it added.
Earlier this month, Jasprit Bumrah played a pivotal role in India’s T20 World Cup title defence. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav used him in different phases and the strike fast bowler certainly delivered for the team, finishing as the tournament’s joint-leading wicket taker with 14 scalps from eight outings.
Bumrah returned with figures of 4/15 in the final against New Zealand at Ahmedabad and posted an economy of 6.21 throughout the competition. Deservingly, he was named Player-of-the-Match in the title clash.
Bumrah is expected to hold the key once again as Mumbai Indians aim to clinch their record-extending sixth IPL title in the 2026 edition, set to begin on March 28.
