With barely a few days remaining for the IPL 2026, Jasprit Bumrah has reportedly checked into the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE), creating uncertainty regarding his immediate availability for the Mumbai Indians (MI).
According to TOI, it is unclear if the visit is for a minor injury or a routine fitness check-up but the ace pacer is at the facility in Bengaluru and is yet to join MI pre-season camp.
On March 17, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene confirmed that the franchise granted an extended break to their four players who were part of India's T20 World Cup-winning squad – Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Tilak Varma.
“Every year, our aim is to get there (win the IPL trophy). But I know it's a long season. So pre-season will start the way we usually start, working hard, getting new boys into the setup. And with our (T20) World Cup guys, we've given them a bit of an extended break so that they will join us next weekend. The overseas guys also flew in home and then they will join us. But they'll have a good one week training with us before the first game,” Jayawardene had said during the closing ceremony of the MI Junior season at the MIG Cricket Club Ground.
Earlier this month, Jasprit Bumrah played a pivotal role in India’s T20 World Cup title defence. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav used him in different phases and the strike fast bowler certainly delivered for the team, finishing as the tournament’s joint-leading wicket taker with 14 scalps from eight outings.
Bumrah returned with figures of 4/15 in the final against New Zealand at Ahmedabad and posted an economy of 6.21 throughout the competition. Deservingly, he was named Player-of-the-Match in the title clash.
Bumrah is expected to hold the key once again as Mumbai Indians aim to clinch their record-extending sixth IPL title in the 2026 season, slated to start on March 28.
