Chennai Super Kings (CSK) held a huge fan ‘Roar 26’ event at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk on March 22, 2026. It featured the present and past of the CSK franchise, with yesteryear stars having a gala time with today’s CSK players.
Matthew Hayden and Suresh Raina were inducted into the CSK Hall of Fame, while the yesteryear stars batted and bowled against the present CSK players and had a gala time in front of a full Anbuden.
One of the most popular match-ups was when India’s T20 World Cup 2026 hero and CSK’s newest recruit, Sanju Samson, faced off against Sri Lanka and CSK legend Muttiah Muralitharan.
Muralitharan started with a few warm-up deliveries, which Samson successfully defended. However, it didn't take long for Samson to understand why Muralitharan had 800 Test and 534 ODI wickets, both world records, in his 19-year international career.
Muralitharan outpaced Samson in flight. As Samson ran down the track to heave, he completely missed the ball and was stumped by MS Dhoni. However, Sanju Samson gathered his thoughts and hammered the Lankan great for a six, much to the shouts and chants of the CSK audience.

The Rajasthan Royals had traded Sanju Samson to Chennai Super Kings in a high-profile transaction including Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. CSK will hope the move pays off, especially given Samson's previous performance in the T20 World Cup, when he hit 321 runs in 5 games with a strike rate of 199.37.
CSK has invested in Ruturaj Gaikwad as their captain, yet both he and the team have performed poorly. CSK failed to make the playoffs in the previous two IPL seasons, concluding last season with the wooden spoon.
