Sri Lanka T20I captain Dasun Shanaka has reportedly ditched the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2026) as he has signed up with the Indian Premier League as a replacement for Sam Curran for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) franchise for the upcoming IPL 2026.
Shanaka was picked by Lahore Qalandars in the recent PSL 2026 auction for PKR 75 lakhs but has now decided to withdraw from the Pakistani league to become part of the Indian Premier League.
As per the Cricbuzz report, Shanaka has been signed by the Rajasthan Royals for the upcoming season, coming in as a replacement for the injured Sam Curran, who was earlier ruled out of IPL 2026 due to a groin injury.
"Yes, we have signed him," a top Royals official confirmed the signing to Cricbuzz.
Shanaka went unsold in the IPL 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi and had then decided to sign up for the PSL auction. Shanaka had played for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023 and 2025 previously, and this will be his first time playing for the Rajasthan Royals.
PSL 2026 is seeing lots of players withdrawing their names, including Harry Brook, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Faf du Plessis, David Wiese, Tymal Mills, Mujeeb-Ur Rehman, Mohammad Nabi, and Fazalhaq Farooqi.
Zimbabwe's Blessing Muzarabani has withdrawn from the PSL after getting signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for the IPL 2026 tournament. West Indies spinner Gudakesh Motie pulled out of his stint with Lahore Qalandars and could join Lucknow Super Giants as an injury replacement.
