Sanju Samson will be playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming IPL 2026 tournament, and the franchise shared a video of his interaction with the CSK legend MS Dhoni. Samson's arrival follows a spectacular run with the Indian team.
He was selected Player of the Tournament after contributing significantly to India's victory at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. He amassed 321 runs in just 5 games with a strike rate of 199.37, breaking Virat Kohli’s record for most runs by an Indian in one T20 World Cup edition.
His campaign was outstanding. After struggling for form and even being benched earlier in the competition, Samson returned for the Super 8 match against Zimbabwe and turned things around in a spectacular way.
He then went on to score three consecutive half-centuries, 97* against the West Indies in a virtual quarter-final, 89 against England in the semi-final, and 89 against New Zealand in the final, anchoring India's innings throughout.
Chennai Super Kings recently published a rare video documenting MS Dhoni and Sanju Samson's first meeting, giving fans a look into a long-awaited occasion.
In the video, Samson is seen conversing with Dhoni as his voice plays in the background, reflecting on how important this moment is to him.

“After that, we used to meet at the IPL, and there used to be a huge crowd in front of the stadium. There were 5-10 people here and 5-10 people there. I used to think that this was not enough. I have to see it alone. I had such a desire. Destiny has got me to come and play with him in one dressing room. Like that couple of months, I am very, very excited. Definitely very genuinely excited to meet him and interact with him. Sit, have breakfast with him, practice with him, play matches with him, and move out. Just thinking about it makes me very happy,” Samson says in the CSK video in Tamil.
CSK will want to change their fortunes after they finished in the 10th spot in the IPL 2025 points table, something that happened for the first time in their IPL duration.
