India and Rajasthan Royals’ young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has revealed that he wants to break West Indies great Chris Gayle’s IPL record of the highest individual score of 175* in the upcoming IPL 2026.
Following a phenomenal 2025 season in which he emerged as one of Indian cricket's brightest rising stars, Sooryavanshi is gearing up for another explosive IPL campaign with the Rajasthan Royals in 2026.
The teenager dominated the competition last year, becoming the youngest hundred in IPL history in the 2025 edition, before continuing his fantasy run with centuries in England and Australia.
His extraordinary climb reached a new high earlier this year, when he hit a breathtaking 175 in the final of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, guiding India to victory.
Sooryavanshi stated at the BCCI Naman Awards in New Delhi, which he most aspired to. When asked to choose between smashing six sixes in an over, getting the fastest IPL century, and beating Gayle's legendary 175, the youngster did not hesitate.
“To break the 175-run record,” he said.
Notably, Gayle’s blistering 175* came in 66 balls with a record 13 fours and 17 sixes. Gayle’s century came in only 30 balls, which remains a record for the fastest ton in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. He helped RCB make 263/5 in 20 overs against Pune Warriors India. In response, PWI managed 133/9 in 20 overs, suffering a 130-run defeat.
Sooryavanshi stated that his primary goal remains winning the IPL title for the Rajasthan Royals.
“The goal this IPL season is to win the trophy for the team. It is a very important thing. I want to do well, and my performance will help the whole team. My goal is to contribute to RR’s wins and win the trophy for the franchise,” said Sooryavanshi.
Sooryavanshi, who was picked up by the Royals as a 13-year-old in 2024, credited the franchise for backing his talent early.
“When I made my domestic debut, RR had been keeping an eye on me during my domestic and Under-19 games. Their scouting team had been tracking me for a long time. My trial went very well, and I felt I could go to RR.
Rahul sir was there at that time, so I got to learn a lot from him. There were a lot of senior players in the team, and it was a great learning experience,” Sooryavanshi said.
