The ongoing conflict between the USA, Israel, and Iran has impacted the supply of petroleum and LPG products. With the fast-approaching IPL 2026 season, the BCCI is closely monitoring the situation, hoping that it doesn’t affect the league.
The 19th edition of the Indian Premier League is scheduled to begin on March 28, and conclude on May 31.
“It’s an evolving situation. We hope the situation will be under control by then (by March 28). But if this continues, we will have to look at options because this would not only impact the teams and players, but also the spectators.
“So we are keeping a close tab on the issue,” IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said in an exclusive chat with Sportstar.
According to the publication, Hotel Owners’ Associations in Bengaluru have indicated that they have LPG stocks for only a day or two, and around 20 per cent of hotels and restaurants have closed operations in Mumbai owing to the crisis.
If the disruption persists, the BCCI may find itself in a tough spot and have to explore contingency plans to stage the IPL 2026.
Earlier, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) directed oil refineries to increase LPG production and instructed them to ensure that all the additional output will be diverted exclusively for domestic household use.
“The ministry has prioritised domestic LPG supply to households and introduced a 25-day inter-booking period to prevent hoarding and black marketing. Non-domestic supplies from imported LPG are being prioritised for essential sectors such as hospitals and educational institutions,” the ministry said in a statement.
