Uttar Pradesh’s Prashant Veer realised a lifelong dream on Sunday (December 16) as he bagged a mega IPL deal with Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
The spin-bowling all-rounder was signed by the five-time champions for a staggering Rs 14.20 crore, making him the joint-most expensive uncapped player in IPL auction history alongside Kartik Sharma, who was also acquired by CSK a few minutes later.
The 20-year-old was watching the auction live on mobile with his state teammates. UP skipper Rinku Singh celebrated when the bid breached Rs 10 crore mark, while other teammates teased Prashant about managing such a huge amount of money.
"Maza aa raha hai (I am enjoying)," Veer commented on his record-breaking contract in a video shared by Star Sports on X.
Prashant Veer is a powerful middle-order batter and a left-arm spinner, with 112 runs at a strike rate of 167.16 and 12 wickets at an average of 16.66 in T20s to his name. He rose to fame in the UP T20 League, where he was named Emerging Player of the Season in 2025.
Earlier, Prashant expressed his excitement on getting a chance to play alongside the legendary MS Dhoni at CSK.
“I’m happy to be joining Chennai Super Kings because MS Dhoni is there," Prashant said on Match Centre Live Auction 2026. “The way he bats in the lower order, his mindset, the way he talks, how he controls his body and stays so focused — there is so much to learn from him. Batting in the lower order is not easy, but what he has done is special. Even if I can learn four or five percent from him, it will be very useful for me."
CSK’s squad for IPL 2026 season: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Anshul Kamboj, Gurjapneet Singh, Jamie Overton, MS Dhoni, Mukesh Choudhary, Nathan Ellis, Noor Ahmad, Ramakrishna Ghosh, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Shreyas Gopal, Khaleel Ahmed, Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brevis, Urvil Patel, Sarfaraz Khan, Kartik Sharma, Prashant Veer, Matthew Short, Aman Khan, Zak Foulkes, Akeal Hosein, Rahul Chahar, Matt Henry.
