Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin advised people to share videos "carefully" on Thursday, a day after he unintentionally revealed all-rounder Shardul Thakur's trade to the Mumbai Indians.
Ashwin may have made a mistake when he disclosed on his YouTube channel on Wednesday that the LSG all-rounder had been traded to MI.
Ashwin said, "I don’t see any releases happening from MI. Will they try to secure a replacement for Deepak Chahar, who’s a bit injury-prone? They have secured Shardul Thakur on a trade from LSG. That is already done."
The clip was removed by Ashwin from his YouTube video, but the damage was done, and the news of Shardul’s trade was all over social media.
Mumbai Indians took the leak well and posted the clip of the news on their social media and took a dig at R Ashwin, calling him ‘Ravichandran Romano’.
"News confirmed by Ravichandran Romano last afternoon - Yes, we have secured the signing of Shardul Thakur from LSG!" MI posted on X.
Ashwin admitted to his mistake and cautioned others to share trade news with caution on social media.
“Here we go.. Fair play… Trading is subject to rumour risk. Upload all trade-related videos carefully!” Ashwin posted while quoting MI’s post on him.
At his base price of Rs 2 crore, Shardul Thakur joined the Lucknow Super Giants to replace Mohsin Khan after going unsold in the previous year's IPL auction in Jeddah. He finished with an economy of 11.02 and claimed 13 wickets in 10 IPL 2025 games, including a four-wicket haul. Shardul's seventh IPL team will be the Mumbai Indians.
