The ICC penalized both India and the West Indies after the third ODI between the two teams in New Chandigarh on October 3, 2026. India won the three-ODI series 2-1, as the West Indies won the final ODI.

India batted first in the third and final ODI and, thanks to 129 by KL Rahul and 92 by Rohit Sharma, posted 351/7 in 50 overs. In response, Windies captain Shai Hope made 162*, and Amir Jangoo made 67 as the men in maroon chased down the target in 48.2 overs with 5 wickets in hand.

On October 5, the ICC revealed that India and West Indies have been sanctioned for maintaining slow over-rates during the third and final ODI of their series in New Chandigarh.

“India have been fined 20 per cent of their match fee, while West Indies have been fined 10 per cent after being ruled four and two overs short of their required over-rates, respectively, once time allowances were taken into consideration.

Prakash Bhatt of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanctions.  Both captains pleaded guilty to the offenses and accepted the proposed sanctions, meaning there was no need for formal hearings. The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Sam Nogajski, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, and fourth umpire Virender Sharma,” the ICC statement read.

India had won the first two ODIs in Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati. They earned their highest chase in ODIs when they hunted down a 406-run target in Guwahati, thanks to 223* by Shubman Gill and a century by Rohit Sharma. Shubman Gill was named the Player of the Series for his 334 runs in three ODIs.

The two teams will now clash in a series of five T20I matches starting on October 6 in Lucknow.
