Yashasvi Jaiswal dominated the first day of the second Test between India and the West Indies that started in Delhi on October 10, 2025. India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bat first.
KL Rahul made 38 and added 58 runs for the first wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who batted with concern initially but opened up as well when Sai Sudharsan joined him.
Sudharsan and Jaiswal added 193 runs for the second wicket. Sai made 87 with 12 fours before he was dismissed by Jomel Warrican, who had also taken the wicket of KL Rahul. Meanwhile, Jaiswal reached his century in just 145 balls. Shubman Gill then joined Jaiswal, and they added 67 runs for the third wicket.
However, in the final few minutes of the opening day, India captain Shubman Gill collided with West Indies wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach, prompting both players to undergo a concussion test on the field.
The event occurred during the fifth ball of the 85th over. Jaiswal flicked Anderson Phillips' delivery for a single. The throw reached the keepers' end, and the off-target throw put both Gill and Imlach in a difficult position, resulting in a collision between the two players.
Both players looked visibly shocked, and physios arrived to check on the players. Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal was seen conducting the concussion check on Gill, holding up two fingers in front of his face and asking him how many fingers there were.
Gill had a flabbergasted look at Jaiswal and turned his face away with a huge smile.
“He has been taken out by the bigger Shubman Gill. That'll take a few minutes out of the game as the physio comes on,” former Windies pacer Ian Bishop said on commentary.
Deep Dasgupta, a former India wicketkeeper, branded it a "rugby"-style tackle, claiming the Windies player was hit on the side of the helmet.
“That's an awkward, awkward position there. The angle, I guess, and also the helmet. Both concerned players seem to be in a bit of trouble. Oh, that's a proper rugby tackle. Call it NFL, actually. Oh, it's the awkward angle, isn't it? It's the arm of Tevlan Imlach. It's the side of the helmet,” he said.
Meanwhile, India ended day one on 318/2 with Yashasvi Jaiswal on 173* with 22 fours and Shubman Gill on 20*.
