Veteran India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja opened up about becoming the vice-captain of the Test team for the West Indies Test series. He was given the responsibility in the absence of Rishabh Pant, who was the deputy to Shubman Gill on the England tour and is missing this series due to his fractured foot.
The veteran has expressed gratitude and satisfaction at being handed this task.
On the morning of the first test in Ahmedabad, he discussed his new role and carrying the England tour confidence into the new home season. He revealed that he was not given a formal briefing when he took up the post. The all-rounder called getting the responsibility quite special.
“They didn’t say anything to me. I just saw "VC" written next to my name when the team was announced. End of the day, whatever experience you have to share, you do it for the team,” said Jadeja to BCCI.
“They gave me the respect. The captain, the coach, and the management have decided to give me the responsibility. Whenever the team needs anything regarding team planning or whatever, I am always happy to contribute,” he added.
Ravindra Jadeja also spoke about doing well on the tour of England and stated that runs and rhythm from that series have topped up his belief.
“As a player, I gain my confidence. Whenever you perform in England, you get the confidence. Hopefully, I can continue and take forward that confidence into this series, score some runs, and take some wickets,” Jadeja stated.
Meanwhile, Jadeja bowled three overs as West Indies opted to bat first in the first test in Ahmedabad and were shot out for 162 runs. Mohammed Siraj took 4/40, while Jasprit Bumrah took 3/42 and Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets.
