The Indian team management is not one bit pleased with the placid Delhi pitch that was served for the second Test against the West Indies.

Having gained a massive first innings lead of 270 runs, the hosts decided to enforce the follow-on. However, the Indian bowlers had to toil hard to bowl out the visitors on a placid track at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

West Indies posted 390/10 in 118.5 overs in their second essay and made India bat again. The Shubman Gill-led side chased down the modest 121-run target with seven wickets in hand and clinched the series 2-0.

Despite the win, head coach Gautam Gambhir expressed disappointment of the team management, which felt that neither the medium pacers nor the finger spinners got any purchase off the surface.

"I thought that we could have had a better wicket here. Yes, we did get the result on day five, but again, I think the nicks need to carry. I think there has to be something for the fast bowlers as well," Gambhir said in the post-match presser.

"I know we keep talking about spinners playing an important role, but when you've got probably two quality fast bowlers in your ranks, you still want them to be in the game as well," Gambhir highlighted the importance of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.

In their next Test assignment against South Africa at home, Team India would like pitches that allow Bumrah and Siraj to be more effective even though the Proteas will have ace pacer Kagiso Rabada in the ranks. Kolkata (November 14-18) and Guwahati (November 22-26) will host the two Test matches.

According to Gambhir, if one wants Test cricket to be alive in India then tracks like Kotla aren't the best.

"There has to be carry. So what we all saw, I thought the carry wasn't there, which was a bit alarming.

"And I think going forward, we can get better wickets in Test cricket because all of us have the responsibility of keeping Test cricket alive," Gambhir remarked.
