Former India head coach Ravi Shastri couldn't keep calm in the commentary box as the legendary Virat Kohli put on a show with the bat in the ongoing first ODI against South Africa at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi.

Kohli’s ODI future came under severe scrutiny after he bagged a couple of ducks on the tour of Australia last month. However, the 37-year-old silenced his critics with a breathtaking knock of 135 runs in 120 balls, including 11 fours and 7 sixes.

It was the 52nd century of his illustrious ODI career. Kohli’s three-figure score propelled the hosts to a massive 349/8 in 50 overs.

Ever since the ODI series against Australia in October, rumours are rife about the future of Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who have already announced their retirements from T20I and Test formats.

Recently, it was reported that the BCCI is planning a review meeting with head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar in Ahmedabad to discuss the future of Kohli and Rohit in ODIs, with the 2027 World Cup firmly in sight.

It is also being speculated that the ageing pair might be asked to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy in December-January to remain in shape and keep up with the rigours of international cricket.

However, Shastri reacted bluntly after Kohli's ton in Ranchi. The 1983 World Cup-winner said that the Indian talisman has silenced one and all with his blistering hundred.

“It's number 52. Gets it with a boundary. Punches the air in delight. It has been a long wait. This is the format he plays now, and he would have silenced a lot of people. His third on the ground,” said Shastri on-air.

“It has been a brilliant innings, just the way he got there. Just the timing on that shot,” he added.

During his stunning display in Ranchi, Virat Kohli shared a 136-run stand with Rohit Sharma, who scored 57 runs off 51 balls with the help of 5 fours and 3 sixes.
