India batting great Virat Kohli showed great appreciation towards New Zealand’s batter Daryl Mitchell after his heroic ton helped the BlackCaps defeat Men in Blue in the third and final ODI of the series in Indore. This also resulted in New Zealand winning their maiden ODI series in India.

New Zealand was asked to bat first by Shubman Gill, who won the toss. Daryl Mitchell hit his best ODI score of 137 and added 219 runs for the fourth wicket with Glen Phillips, who made 106. New Zealand posted 337/8 in 50 overs.

India’s chase was dependent on Virat Kohli’s masterful 124 runs (10 fours and 3 sixes) as openers Rohit Sharma (11) and Shubman Gill (23) failed, so did the middle order of Shreyas Iyer (3) and KL Rahul (1).

Kohli kept one end going and added valuable runs with Nitish Reddy (53) and Harshit Rana (52), but ran out of gas towards the end. India could only muster 296 runs and lost the game by 41 runs. New Zealand won the series 2-1, and Daryl Mitchell won the Player of the Match and Player of the Series.

Virat Kohli was seen showing great admiration for what Daryl Mitchell achieved for New Zealand and appreciated him with a brilliant gesture. During the post-match presentation, Kohli walked across to the New Zealand camp, handed Mitchell a signed jersey, and shared a warm embrace with him.
