Ravindra Jadeja (27) and KL Rahul then added 73 runs for the fifth wicket, and then Nitish Kumar Reddy (20) added 57 runs for the sixth wicket with Rahul, who anchored one end.
Rahul single-handedly revived the Indian innings and slammed 112* in 92 balls with 11 fours and 1 six as he took India to 284/7 in 50 overs. Kristian Clarke was the pick of the Kiwi bowlers, as he took 3/56.
Rahul was the reason India posted a brilliant century, hitting a six to reach the landmark and celebrating with fingers in his mouth as a tribute to his daughter Evaraah.
