Rishabh Pant’s run out after a mix-up with Virat Kohli put India into deeper trouble as they tried to chase the 359-run target against New Zealand in the second Test being played in Pune. India had started well in a massive chase despite losing Rohit Sharma for 8 runs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal came out playing positively on day 3 and had Shubman Gill (23) for the company. However, Mitchell Santner struck big, removing Gill and Jaiswal (77) to put India in trouble. This brought Rishabh Pant to partner with Kohli.

It was expected that the duo would help Indian get back on track and salvage some pride. But it was not to be as a mix-up between Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli resulted in Pant being run out for a duck.

The incident occurred in the 23rd over when India chased a huge 359 mark to tie the series. Ajaz Patel bowled a decent length ball to Kohli, who steered it to the short third man. Kohli glanced to Pant, who was at the non-striker's end, seeking to steal a single.

They both trusted each other and ran. Mitchell Santner, on the other hand, launched a throw towards the goalkeeper's end, and Tom Blundell took care of the rest. Pant appeared to be laboring, despite his determined effort to get within the crease.

The decision was referred to the third umpire, and replays revealed that Pant was well short of the line when Blundell broke the stumps.

Pant's unfortunate dismissal sparked a debate on social. While some blamed Pant for not refusing the single, others thought it was Kohli's fault.
