Shubman Gill, India’s no.3 batter, is in doubt for the first Test against New Zealand that will be played from October 16 in Bengaluru.

India will play a three-match Test series against Tom Latham's team before heading to Australia for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune will host the second Test on October 24 and 28. The third and final Test will take place at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium from November 1 to 5.

Shubman Gill, an India batter, is uncertain for the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru after complaining of neck and shoulder soreness.

As per India Today report, Gill informed team management about the issue on Monday, according to sources. A call on Shubman Gill's availability will be taken on Wednesday morning.

Shubman Gill has been an important member of India's Test team, gradually establishing himself as the No. 3 batter. The right-hander scored a match-winning 119 not out in the first Test of the recently finished two-Test series against Bangladesh in Chennai.

He followed that up with a quick 39 in the first innings of the Kanpur Test, which India won in less than two days.

India does not have a comparable candidate for the no. 3 spot, although they can move KL Rahul up the order. Sarfaraz Khan and Dhurv Jurel are eligible to bat in the middle order. Akshar Patel, an extra all-rounder, can potentially be added to India's middle order.  

Captain Rohit Sharma stated that it was raining heavily in Bengaluru on the eve of the Test and that a decision on the playing XI would be made after analyzing the conditions on Wednesday morning. The captain also stated that the surface at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium was covered, and the conditions would decide the team composition.
