India tweaker Varun Chakravarthy has proved to be a nightmare for England batter Harry Brook in the ongoing T20I series so far.
Brook is struggling to read Chakravarthy’s deliveries and has been knocked over by the mystery spinner in the first two matches.
Just like the series opener in Kolkata, Brook was completely bamboozled by Chakravarthy in the second T20I at Chepauk as the latter bowled a delivery that went through the gap between bat and pad to shatter his stumps.
Harry Brook’s dismissal in the second T20I led to former Indian cricketers, Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar, trolling the English batter.
“That’s through him. Once again, it’s Varun Chakravarthy. You don’t need the smog. This is sneak through, and it's crashed into the stumps,” Shastri said on-air, referring to Brook’s “smog” statement after the first T20I.
Gavaskar, who was also on commentary duties at the time, was more blunt in his remark as he said, "Varun Chakravarthy is looking at him, and saying look if there's any smog there."
Notably, Harry Brook had blamed the "smog" for England's poor batting effort in the opening T20I at the Eden Gardens.
“Chakaravarthy is an exceptionally good bowler. But with the smog the other night, it was a lot harder to pick. Hopefully, the air is a bit clearer here and we can see the ball a bit easier,” Brook had told reporters after England’s seven-wicket defeat in Kolkata.
