IND v ENG 2024: WATCH – Shubman Gill refuses to divulge details of chat with Anderson after hitting him for straight six

Gill slammed a stunning hundred on Day 2 of the Dharamsala Test.

Shubman Gill's straight six off James Anderson | JioCinemaShubman Gill continued his purple patch in red-ball cricket as he slammed a stunning hundred on Day 2 of the fifth and final Test against England in Dharamsala.

The right-hander, who was unbeaten on 26 overnight, went on to score 110. His 150-ball knock was studded with 12 fours and 5 sixes.

Gill charged down the track to both spinners and pacers, including against the veteran James Anderson. In the first hour of play, he was at his sublime best as he took two steps to hit Anderson down the ground for a six with dead straight bat.

Both Gill and Anderson were seen having a chat after that glorious six. After the day’s play, the Indian batter asked to reveal the chat but he refused to divulge, saying that it should be kept private.

"I think it would be better for both of us to keep that chat between us," Shubman told broadcasters after the end of second day’s play.

The 24-year-old also opened up on his thought process to attack Anderson by charging down the ground.

"I thought the ball wasn't doing much at that time and instinctively I wanted to go over the top and put some pressure on him," he added.

While Gill dominated Anderson in the morning session, the England seamer produced a peach of a delivery in the second session to dismiss India’s No. 3 batter.

Gill admitted that he had a chance to convert the century into a big one. "I feel good every time I go out to bat and today I missed out on that ball," he said.

Shubman’s father Lakhwinder Singh Gill, who was in attendance at the picturesque HPCA Stadium, also stood up on his feet with pride when his son notched up fourth Test hundred with a boundary off Shoaib Bashir.

Shubman Gill attributed his success to his father's vision and said that he will be proud of his achievement.

"It was my first time that he's (talking about his dad) watching me play (in an international game). It was his vision (to play Test cricket) and I'm hoping that he is proud of my effort today," he asserted.

Coming to the match, India rode on centuries from Gill and Rohit Sharma (103) to end the second day on 473/8, leading England by 255 runs in the first innings. Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah walked back to the dressing room unbeaten on 27 and 19, respectively.
