Devdutt Padikkal will in all probability have to wait for his maiden Test cap, as the Indian cricket team management is reportedly unlikely to make a change to the batting unit for the fifth and final Test against England.

There were expectations of a change from the Indian cricket team in the final Test, as the hosts have already clinched the home series with an unassailable lead of 3-1.

The final match of the Test series is scheduled to start on Thursday, March 7 in Dharamsala, and the feeling was that the underwhelming performance of Rajat Patidar could make the management think about trying out Padikkal. Patidar's score read 32, 9, 5, 0, 17, and 0 in the three Tests he has played.

Given his disappointing performance, there was speculation that Padikkal might replace Patidar in the final Test in Dharamsala. But now it seems that Patidar will be given another opportunity to prove himself, as the hosts have already won the Test series against England.

A source told The Indian Express:The team wants Patidar to get one more chance as they feel Patidar has talent and it's a matter of time before he gets runs. As India has already won the series, the team wants to try him out one more time instead of giving a debut to Devdutt Padikkal.”

Notably, Jasprit Bumrah will join the Indian squad in Dharamsala for the final Test after being rested for the Ranchi Test, while star all-rounder Washington Sundar has been released from the squad.
