England suffered their first series loss under the leadership of Stokes and McCullum.

England suffered their first series loss under the leadership of Stokes and McCullum | GettyFormer India cricketer Virender Sehwag took a funny dig at England’s ‘Bazball’ approach after the Rohit Sharma-led Team India defeated the visitors by 5 wickets in the fourth Test in Ranchi on February 26, 2024.

India had resumed their 192-run chase on 40/0 with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal taking guard. The duo took the score to 84 runs with Jaiswal falling for 37 runs. Rohit Sharma completed his fifty but was dismissed for 55 runs.

Shoaib Bashir then removed Rajat Patidar, Ravindra Jadeja, and Sarfaraz Khan in quick succession. But Shubman Gill with 52*, added an unbeaten 72 runs for the sixth wicket with Dhruv Jurel (39*) to take India to the finishing line and won the match by 5 wickets.

For England, it was a pretty defining defeat as it was the first series loss for the team under skipper Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum. Their ‘bazball’ aggressive batting approach had changed England’s fortunes, but this same approach proved to be unfruitful for them in India.

England started the five-Test series well with a 28-run win in Hyderabad. However, since then, they lost by 106 runs in Vizag and suffered a huge 434-run defeat in Rajkot.

With this 5-wicket win in Ranchi, India also took an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series.

With this series defeats, England slipper to the number 8 spot in the WTC 2023-25 points table with a win percentage points of 19.44. England have played 9 Tests and won only 3, losing 5 and drawing one game.

India solidified themselves at the no.2 spot with 5 wins and 2 losses from 8 Tests and percentage win points of 64.58.

After India's series-clinching victory, former India opener Virender Sehwag took a hilarious dig at England saying they should continue entertaining fans with their Bazball and can leave the boring things like a victory to India, Australia and New Zealand.

"Karlo Entertainment, England. Jeet jaisi boring cheez Bharat, Australia, New Zealand kar lenge," Sehwag posted on X.

The last Test of the series will be played in Dharamshala from March 7 onwards.
