Shubman Gill rose to the occasion with a commendable display in a crucial moment, as he contributed a gritty and patient knock of 52* that played a pivotal role in Team India's five-wicket win over England in the fourth Test at Ranchi.

Chasing a target of 192 runs, the Indian cricket team had a great start with openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal dominating the English bowlers, with the skipper also reaching a well-deserved fifty against England in Ranchi.

However, India found themselves in a precarious position as they slipped from a promising 84/0 to a concerning 120/5. It was during this crucial juncture that Gill and Dhruv Jurel (39*) stepped up, delivering a match-winning performance that proved pivotal in India's triumph over England.

Gill stitched a 72*-run partnership with Jurel to help India win the game to clinch the ongoing five-match Test series 3-1 against England in Ranchi on Monday (February 26). After the match, the star batter credited Jurel for taking the pressure from him during their partnership.

Shubman Gill said in the post-match interview: “We were put under pressure by them, but we got a good start by our openers, losing couple of wickets put pressure. But Jurel came out and took the pressure off.”

He added, “You have to see the situation and play accordingly – they were bowling well and protecting the boundaries, also not giving maidens and keep picking the singles (was the mindset).”

Speaking about his words to Jurel, Gill said: “I just told him (Jurel) you batted beautifully in the first innings and to have the same mindset, try to use the feet to negate the off-spinner. The way he came down and played was beautiful.”

Now, India will take on England in the fifth and final Test from March 7 in Dharamshala.
