Indian team won the five-Test series against England by going 3-1 up thanks to a hard-fought 5-wicket win in the recent Ranchi Test. They achieved the win on February 26, 2024, on day four of the match.
England posted 353 runs thanks to Joe Root’s brilliant century after choosing to bat first. India responded well with Yashasvi Jaiswal (73) and Dhruv Jurel (90) leading the Indian charge as the hosts made 307, keeping the deficit to 46 runs only.
Then R Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav spun a web around the England batters in the second innings. Ashwin with 5/51 and Kuldeep with 4/22 kept England to 145 runs, giving India 192 runs to win the Test.
Indian openers Rohit Sharma (55) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (37) added 84 runs for the first wicket to give India the edge. But then Shoaib Bashir added three wickets to his haul to put India in trouble at 120/5. But Shubman Gill (52*) got help from first innings hero Dhruv Jurel (39*) as the duo added 72* runs for the sixth wicket.
India overhauled the total in 61 overs with 5 wickets in hand and won the Test match. With this victory, India also took a lead of 3-1 in the five-Test series. Dhruv Jurel was named the Player of the match for his brilliant batting and wicketkeeping in the match.
The final Test of the series will be played in Dharamshala from March 7 onwards.
The cricket fraternity was all praises for the Indian team, who showed resilience and grit on a difficult pitch to win the Test and the series.
