India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has made a mockery of England’s bowling attack in the ongoing five-match Test series.
In the first three Tests, the southpaw aggregated 545 runs at an average of 109 and a strike rate of 81.10, including two double hundreds and a half-century.
Jaiswal has carried his brilliant form to the ongoing fourth Test in Ranchi as well. At the time of writing this article, the 22-year-old was batting on 54 not out off 96 balls with five boundaries and one six.
However, before his half-century, there was a controversial moment in the second day's play when England players started celebrating after a grounded catch of Yashasvi Jaiswal.
The incident occurred in the 20th over of India’s first innings. As soon as Jaiswal edged a delivery from Ollie Robinson to wicketkeeper Ben Foakes, the English played erupted in celebration.
But the third umpire decided after a couple of replays that it was not a clean catch and Jaiswal survived.
For celebrating Yashasvi Jaiswal’s wicket prematurely, Ben Stokes and his men received a lot of flak on social media as some netizens also called them ‘cheats’.
Here are the reactions:
Coming to the match, England’s first innings folded for 353 in the morning session on Saturday (February 24). Veteran Joe Root starred with the bat for the tourists, scoring 122 not out off 274 balls. Robinson (58) and Foakes (47) also made notable contributions with the bat.
In reply, the hosts were 131/4 after 38 overs with Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan unbeaten in the middle.
