IND v ENG 2024: Cricket fraternity praises Joe Root as his sublime 106* helps England finish strong on day 1

England ended on 302/7 with Root on 106* and Robinson on 31*

Joe Root | GettyJoe Root roared back into form with a classic knock on day one of the ongoing fourth Test between India and England. This match got underway at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi on February 23, 2024.

Ben Stokes won the toss and chose that England would bat first on a seemingly spin-friendly track. However, it was India’s debutant Akash Deep who proved to be too hard to handle for the visitors.

He removed Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Zak Crawley early in the first session to make a brilliant debut. Then R Ashwin accounted for Jonny Bairstow and Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Ben Stokes as England went to lunch on 118/5.

But after the lunch break, Joe Root, along with Ben Foakes turned the tables on Indian bowlers as they played out a wicketless session and added 113 runs together. Ben Foakes fell for 47 runs to Mohammed Siraj.

Root then 25 runs with Tom Hartley and reached his 10th Test against India and overall his 31st century in the format. Root helped England get past the 300-run mark and is unbeaten on 106 at the end of the day’s play. He has the company of Ollie Robinson, who has made 31* so far and added 57*runs for the 8th wicket.

The cricket fraternity was all praises for Joe Root as he returned to his old style of play instead of playing audacious shots per Bazball style.
