IND v ENG 2024: “MS Dhoni in my pocket”- Kevin Pietersen brags, Zaheer Khan brings up Yuvraj Singh in response

Pietersen was bragging about dismissing MS Dhoni in Tests, when Zaheer brought up Yuvraj.

Pietersen said Dhoni was in his pocket, talking about dismissing him in a Test | ScreengrabKevin Pietersen and Zaheer Khan were conversing about his Test wickets during the recent Test match between India and England. The match was played in Vizag and saw India winning by 106 runs and leveled the 5-Test series 1-1.

Notably, while MS Dhoni had taken the wicket of Kevin Pietersen in a Test in 2011, the delivery was called a no-ball. But not many know that Kevin Pietersen had dismissed MS Dhoni for his second Test wicket in a Test match at The Oval.

Dhoni was batting on 92 when Pietersen slipped one through to get to castle the former India wicketkeeper.

Pietersen was bragging about taking MS Dhoni’s wicket in a conversation with Zaheer Khan on JioCinema during a break in the second Test. However, he received a fitting reply from Zaheer Khan in return.

It all began when both were asked about their Test wickets, with Pietersen's mind harking back to his maiden Test wicket, when he dismissed Kamran Akmal at Lord's. It was then Zaheer's turn to name his 300th wicket, and his guess of Jacques Kallis proved correct.

Pietersen then praised Zaheer for his memory and then brought up the Dhoni dismissal.

Here is how the conversation went between Kevin Pietersen and Zaheer Khan:

Kevin Pietersen: You know who else I've got in my pocket here? The great Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Right there, there he is next to Kamran Akmal.

Zaheer Khan: You know I met Yuvraj Singh recently and he was talking about Kevin Pietersen being there.

Kevin Pietersen: Yeah, I knew it. I knew you were going to say that.

Zaheer Khan bringing up Yuvraj Singh was a reminder of how many times Pietersen had gotten out to the Indian all-rounder’s left-arm spin. Pietersen was dismissed five times in ODIs by Yuvraj Singh, more than any other bowler in the world. The conversation went on.

Kevin Pietersen: Yuvraj got me a few times (with a laugh).

Zaheer Khan: I remember him (KP) giving him (Yuvraj) a special nickname as well.

Kevin Pietersen: Yeah, and he used it as his e-mail ID too for a while. We've had some great battles, some beautiful battles on the field and that's what happens when you play for such a long time. The good thing is you can speak about it and have fun with it. It's the same thing a guy like Ashwin would do with Ben Stokes when their careers are finished. They will be having a laugh, having a joke like this.

Kevin Pietersen was on commentary duty for the first two Tests against England but has since flown back home.
