India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been bowling brilliantly ever since his comeback to international cricket following the back surgery.

The right-arm quick played an instrumental role in India’s Asia Cup 2023 triumph and then made the batters dance to his tunes in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup last year.

Bumrah carried on his brilliance to Test cricket on the tour of South Africa and in the home series against England. To top it all, he was declared Player-of-the-Tournament in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory after finishing the competition with 15 wickets at an economy rate of 4.50.

Bumrah is currently plying his trade in the home Test series against Bangladesh. He picked up six scalps in the opening Test at Chepauk, and became the sixth Indian pacer to reach the milestone of 400 international wickets.

Lauding his achievement, former India pacer Zaheer Khan hailed Jasprit Bumrah as the best in the business.

“It’s a big achievement, but this is a bowler who still has a lot left to attain. He’ll keep chasing those records because, looking at the type of bowler he is, you will have no hesitation in saying that he is the number one bowler in the world,” said Zaheer on Cricbuzz.

However, Zaheer hopes that Bumrah stays fit going forward. “The hope is that he is aware of the state of his body, that he stays fit going forward and avoids injuries because of how much cricket he is bound to play, he will cross all these milestones,” he added.

When asked if Bumrah takes the pitch out of the equation while bowling, Zaheer replied: “There’s no doubt about that. A great bowler never thinks too much about the conditions, and if does, it is only for the purpose of understanding what weapons he can use, what options and variations he has.”

“When you speak of swing or seam, or yorkers or slower ones, when you have to use those is a part of the experience. You think of conditions in that way rather than thinking that the conditions aren’t in your favour, he has that ability,” concluded the left-arm pacer, who has 597 international wickets to his name.

Jasprit Bumrah will be back in action for India in the second Test against Bangladesh, slated to be held in Kanpur from September 27.
