Young leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi emerged as hero for Team India, as the hosts secured victory in a nail-biting double Super Over against Afghanistan in the third and final T20I at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, January 17.

Bishnoi was chosen to bowl the second Super Over based on strategic considerations, favoring his style over Avesh Khan. This decision was influenced by Bishnoi's previous experience in a double Super Over match, apart from his bowling style, which suited the batting lineup and field dimensions.

Facing two right-handed batters and a longer boundary on the leg side, Bishnoi focused on maintaining a stump-to-stump line and delivering the ball back of a length. This strategy made it tough for the batters to play aggressive shots off the front foot. Bishnoi showcased his tactical skills under pressure, and Afghan batters Mohammad Nabi, Karim Janat, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz failed to find any answers.

Despite the intense pressure of the Super Over, Bishnoi embraced the opportunity to win the match for his country and defend 12 runs against Afghanistan, as India won the second Super Over by 10 runs.

Ravi Bishnoi told the broadcasters, Jio Cinema: “I was enjoying. The heartbeat was high. I have played a double super over match before. Me and Avesh both were asked to be ready but looking at the 2 right handers and a longer boundary in the leg side I was tasked with the job.”

Speaking about his plans against Afghan batters, Bishnoi said: “My plan was to bowl stump to stump and back of a length so that it becomes hard for them to hit forward. I was happy in the batters scoring off the backfoot. I am enjoying playing for the country and defending in a Super Over.”

He signed off by saying, “I am bowling well and delivering nicely. I will try to do better in the Ranji Trophy as well. I am trying to bowl leg breaks as well. I got some assistance in the Ranji Trophy as well bowling the leggie.”
