IND v WI 2019: Shardul Thakur replaces injured Bhuvneshwar Kumar for ODI series

Bhuvneshwar complained of discomfort after the last T20I in Mumbai.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar | GettyTeam India has recalled Shardul Thakur as a replacement to injured pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the three-match ODI series against West Indies, starting Sunday (December 15) in Chennai.

Bhuvneshwar was on Friday ruled out of the ODIs. He had just made a comeback to the side after a four-month-long sabbatical.

"The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Shardul Thakur as replacement for the injured Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the upcoming Paytm ODI series against West Indies," a BCCI media release stated.

"Bhuvneshwar complained of pain in his right groin after the final T20I in Mumbai on Wednesday. He underwent an ultrasound scan conducted by a specialist and the BCCI medical team found that his sportsman's hernia symptoms have resurfaced. A specialist opinion will now be sought, and his management plan will be decided accordingly."

Bhuvneshwar has had injury troubles since the last year's IPL when he first picked up a back injury. He subsequently had to miss the Test series in England and then suffered a hamstring niggle during the World Cup in UK. All this while, the man's been limited to just white-ball cricket.

Bhuvneshwar's replacement, 28-year-old Thakur has played five ODIs and seven T20Is for India.
