Helpless South Africa captain Faf du Plessis brought a proxy captain to help him win his first toss in Asia after nine back-to-back losses. But it didn't help him either, as he once again lost it at Ranchi, against Virat Kohli.

This was Faf's 10th consecutive toss loss in Asia. Even Temba Bavuma couldn't bring luck for the Proteas skipper. "It shows that it isn't meant to be (win the toss with a proxy captain)," du Plessis said.

After winning the toss, Virat was in laughter after seeing Bavuma as the proxy South Africa captain. Faf received criticism from ex-cricketer Graeme Smith who felt it was poor showing from South Africa which reflected their defeated mindset.

New Zealand cricket Jimmy Neesham didn't stay behind in reacting to Faf's misery. He knows how it feels when luck doesn't work in someone's favor. "That really hurts" was his tweet.
