IND v SA 2019: Shahbaz Nadeem called up after Kuldeep Yadav complains of shoulder pain

IND v SA 2019: Shahbaz Nadeem called up after Kuldeep Yadav complains of shoulder pain

Nadeem plays for Jharkhand in domestic cricket.

Shahbaz Nadeem added to India's Test squad

India and South Africa will battle in the Third Test from Saturday (October 19) at Ranchi in Jharkhand. The match can be called a dead rubber as India already has an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match series but there are 40 valuable points at stake in the ICC World Test Championship which will keep both teams interested.

On the eve of the Test match, left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem has been added to India's squad after left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav complained of pain in his left shoulder during the practice session. With the pitch likely to assist spinners, India would definetly want to keep the option of a third spinner on the table if needed.

"The decision to add Nadeem was made after Mr Kuldeep Yadav complained of left shoulder pain on Friday," said MSK Prasad in a statement.

Nadeem is a local boy as he plays for Jharkhand in domestic cricket. He has been a wonderful performer for a long time in the domestic circuit as well as for India A but has unfortunately not yet represented India in international cricket. He has 424 first-class wickets, as well as 145 and 98 wickets in List-A and T20 cricket respectively.

Kuldeep Yadav on the other hand has not played much cricket since the World Cup, and he along with Yuzvendra Chahal find themselves out of the T20 setup with the team management focusing on other spinning options who can do more with the bat.

It will be interesting to see what combination India goes with after playing three seamers in the previous Test in addition to regular spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

India Squad (updated): Virat Kohli (Captain), Mayank Agarwal, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), Hanuma Vihari, Wriddhiman Saha (wicket-keeper), Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Shubman Gill, Shahbaz Nadeem.
