IND v NZ 2023: Cricket fraternity reacts in awe as Shubman Gill’s whirlwind 126* powers India to 234/4 in 3rd T20I

Gill slammed his maiden T20I ton in the series-decider in Ahmedabad.

Shubman Gill | BCCIShubman Gill put on a show with the bat in the series-deciding third T20I at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday (February 1).

Opting to bat first, the Men in Blue lost Ishan Kishan (1) cheaply but the duo of Gill and Rahul Tripathi added 80 runs for the second wicket to lead the foundation for a mammoth total.

While Tripathi was dismissed for 44 off 22 balls, Gill held the one end firmly and notched up his half-century off 35 balls.

After reaching the landmark, Shubman went berserk and started dealing in boundaries. Such was his strokeplay that it took Gill only 18 deliveries to double up his score as he reached his maiden T20I hundred in just 54 balls.

The 23-year-old brought up his milestone with a four against Lockie Ferguson in the 18th over. He also became only the fifth Indian batter after Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli to smash a century for India across all formats.

Shubman Gill’s carnage didn’t stop after the century as well. He added 103 runs for the fourth wicket with skipper Hardik Pandya to take India over the 200-run mark.

While Hardik got out after scoring 30 from 17 balls, Gill stayed unbeaten on 126 off 63 balls with 12 fours and 7 sixes as the hosts piled up a gigantic 234/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

For his scintillating display with the bat, Shubman Gill received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
