Former Team India batting coach Sanjay Bangar was highly impressed with the way Mohammad Shami set up Michael Bracewell for dismissal during the second ODI between India and New Zealand on Saturday (January 21) in Raipur.
Shami was the star of the show during the second ODI, as the senior speedster returned with the impressive figures of 3/18 in 6 overs to help the Men in Blue bowl out New Zealand for 108 in Raipur.
Later, the Indian cricket team chased down the paltry target with eight wickets and 179 deliveries to spare to go 2-0 up in the three-match ODI series against the Black Caps on Saturday.
Coming back to how Shami beautifully dismissed Bracewell (22) in Raipur, the Indian pacer served the Kiwi batter two boundaries before changing the angle and coming over the wicket, something he typically does not do to left-handers and bowled him a bouncer, which Bracewell could only edge to Ishan Kisha behind the stumps.
It all happened during the 19th over of the tourists’ innings, and Bangar feels Shami can take huge lessons from his dismissal of Bracewell and may apply them going forward in the upcoming matches.
Sanjay Bangar said on Star Sports: “You are required to do something different. Shami will probably take a huge learning from this. We might see him doing this going forward as well. When the right-arm bowler comes over the wicket to a left-handed batter, an angle and a slight blind spot are created.”
The former coach also advised Shami to mix things up and regularly change angles while bowling to get more success.
He signed off by saying, “You need to exploit that and he showed a demonstration of that in a brilliant fashion. Mohammad Shami will have to mix this, around the wicket and over the wicket angle to get better success and to get earlier dismissals.”
