IND v ENG 2021: Cricket fraternity reacts as Bairstow’s 124 and Stokes’ 99 help England to a 6-wicket win in 2nd ODI

KL Rahil made 108 | GettyThe second ODI between England and India saw the visitors showed why they are the most dangerous limited-overs side in the world today, as they registered a brilliant six-wicket win chasing 337 runs for the victory.

Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to field first. England struck early, removing Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma in quick succession. But then Virat Kohli (66) and KL Rahul (108) added 121 runs for the third wicket. Kohli fell to Adil Rashid for the second time in the series, which brought in Rishabh Pant, who had replaced the injured Shreyas Iyer in the playing XI.

Rishabh Pant then slammed 77 runs in 40 balls with 7 sixes and 4 fours, adding 113 runs in just 80 balls with KL Rahul, who completed his ton in 108 balls and ended up hitting 7 fours and 2 sixes in his knock.

Reece Topley and Tom Curran with two wickets each were the picks of bowlers from the England side.

In reply, Jason Roy (55) and Jonny Bairstow added 110 runs for the first wicket before Roy fell to a run out thanks to a brilliant effort from Rohit Sharma.

Then Ben Stokes came in and bludgeoned 10 sixes and 4 fours in a 52-ball 99 runs knock, and added 175 runs in just 117 balls to take the game away from India. Jonny Bairstow made his 11th ODI ton and ended up with 124 with 7 sixes and 11 fours to his name.

Prasidh Krishna picked 2/58 as England completed the chase in 43.3 overs losing just 4 wickets and won the match by 6 wickets.
