The England cricket team was criticized for bowling at a slow over-rate in the first ODI against India.
England won the toss and elected to bowl first in the first ODI being played in Pune. They could manage to bowl only 11 overs in the first hour of play followed by around 14 in the next hour. The first half of the Indian innings took 2 hours to be completed.
At the scheduled end of the innings, England were found 8 overs short. Those were later bowled in about 45 minutes, thus attracting criticism from former cricketers and commentators. Swann indicated that England skipper Eoin Morgan would get banned for a few games with such a low over rate.
Graeme Swann said on air, "At this rate, Morgan is going to have to miss a few matches."
Former Indian bowler Ajit Agarkar pointed out that there were stoppages in play because of injuries to Rohit Sharma and Sam Billings but still the over rate was not as expected.
"There were injuries to Rohit Sharma and Sam Billings, but in general the over rate has been pretty poor in the England series," said Agarkar.
Michael Vaughan tweeted, "11 overs in an hour ... One day cricket ... !!!!! I have decided it’s not me getting old it’s the game that needs to bloody hurry up ... #INDvsENG"
