Playing his first 50-over game for India, all-rounder Krunal Pandya left everyone in awe with his fearless batting display in the ODI series opener against England at MCA Stadium, Pune on Tuesday (March 23).
Krunal, who received his maiden ODI cap from younger sibling Hardik Pandya, arrived in the middle when the hosts were in a spot of bother at 205/5 in the 41st over.
Amid the pressure situation, the southpaw smashed the English bowlers all over the park and brought his half-century in just 26 deliveries, which is also the fastest on ODI debut.
After India’s innings got over, Krunal could not hold back his tears during an interview as he dedicated his maiden ODI fifty to his father, who passed away earlier this year due to a cardiac arrest.
“This is for my father,” said Krunal in the mid-innings interview before signalling to end the conversation prematurely.
Minutes later, the senior Pandya was seen crying while hugging his brother Hardik. BCCI’s official handle also shared a video of the emotional moment on Twitter.
Krunal Pandya remained unbeaten on 58 off 31 balls (7 fours and 2 sixes) and shared an unbroken 112-run partnership for the sixth wicket with KL Rahul (62* off 43 balls) as India finished with a mammoth 317/5 in 50 overs.
