IND v ENG 2021: "Prasidh Krishna was in reckoning for India for a long time," reveals Sanjay Bangar

Former Indian assistant coach Sanjay Bangar has revealed that the debutant Prasidh Krishna has been in the Indian Cricket Team’s scheme of things for a while now while reckoning the Karnataka speedster has been known to be a proficient limited-overs bowler for a long time.

The 25-year-old pacer, who is known for his fiery spells that often touches the 150 kph-mark, earned a maiden call to the India squad for the ODI series against England following his impressive show in the domestic cricket, and on Tuesday, March 23, he finally received India cap in the first ODI in Pune.

The right-arm pacer has been impressive in the domestic circuit for the last 4-5 years. He has played 48 List A games and 9 First-class games, bagging 81 wickets at an average of 23.07 and 34 wickets respectively for Karnataka. He also played 40 T20s, taking 33 wickets till the date.

Bangar said on Star Sports, “Krishna has been considered a very good bowler in the shorter formats for a long time. When I was with the team, there used to be discussions about him as a good option.”

The Bangalore-born speedster has also been a regular member of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) squad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he played 24 matches and took 18 wickets so far and the 48-year-old said his experience of playing in the IPL will be really helpful for the pacer at the big stage.

Bangar further noted about the debutant Krishna, “His biggest specialty is that he has played 24-25 IPL matches. So he knows very well how to understand the situation and bowl according to the field settings. He has a sound head and can take good decisions.”

He signed off by saying, “I feel it will be another good addition in the bench strength if Prasidh Krishna plays well and we expect he gets more chances so that he gets the opportunity to prove his ability.”
