England opener Dawid Malan broke Pakistan skipper Babar Azam's T20I record to become fastest to 1000 T20I runs during the fifth T20I against India in Ahmedabad.

Ranked no. 1 in the ICC T20I Batsmen Rankings at the moment, Malan finally got to a big score after some starts earlier in the series. The southpaw scored 68 runs off 46 balls including 9 boundaries and 2 sixes in an attempt to chase down 225 to win the match and the series.

When Malan reached 65, he got to the 1000 run mark in T20I cricket. He thus joined Eoin Morgan (2311), Jos Buttler (1723), Alex Hales (1644), Kevin Pietersen (1176), Jonny Bairstow (1050), and Jason Roy (1034) as the 6th England cricketer with over 1000 runs in the shortest format of the game.

Dawid Malan reached the four-figure mark in just 24 T20I innings, thus eclipsing Babar's record of 26 innings. Indian skipper Virat Kohli was pushed to the third spot in the list with a record of 27 innings. Fourth and fifth in the list are Australian captain Aaron Finch and Indian opener KL Rahul with 29 innings each.

Malan's knock in the final T20I against India went in vain though, as the hosts restricted England to 188/8. Team India won the series 3-2 and lifted the trophy.
