IND v ENG 2021: "If early wickets fall, he can handle it," Deep Dasgupta on Virat Kohli batting at no. 4 in T20Is

IND v ENG 2021: "If early wickets fall, he can handle it," Deep Dasgupta on Virat Kohli batting at no. 4 in T20Is

Dasgupta believes a batsman might be dropped when Ravindra Jadeja returns to the squad.

Former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta has found sense in Indian skipper Virat Kohli batting at No. 4 in T20Is.

In the ongoing T20I series against England, Virat Kohli batted at No. 3 in the first two games followed by No. 4 in the next two. He recorded a 70+ score at both positions but Dasgupta is convinced that the latter is more suited for Kohli given the current Indian XI.

Deep Dasgupta told Sports Today, "The more I think about this current playing XI. I think that (Virat Kohli coming at No.4) makes a lot of sense because you have KL, Rohit opening, then you have someone like Surya to come and bat at 3 and bat freely. My point is Virat coming at 4, if there are early wickets, Virat can handle it."

The 43-year-old further explained that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli can handle the situation better if Team India loses early wickets.

IND v ENG 2021: “Kohli should push Rahul down in playing XI, as Dhoni had done with him,” advises Chopra

"Both Rohit and Virat can control the innings and you have someone like Surya and KL Rahul to play the natural games and be explosive. And also at No.5, you have someone like Rishabh Pant who can again be very explosive. So can Shreyas and Hardik. I don't mind this batting order, to be honest."

"This is not the first time that he has come and batted at No.4. There have been quite a few instances that he batted at 4 in T20 cricket," Dasgupta added.

Ravindra Jadeja | GettyAll-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has not returned to full fitness since the thumb injury he suffered during the Test series in Australia in January 2021. Once he makes a comeback into the national side, a batsman will have to make way for him in the T20I squad according to the former cricketer.

Deep Dasgupta said, "I think the combination might change a bit as soon as Jadeja comes in. The way Jadeja has been batting you can replace a batsman with Jadeja, giving you the luxury of six bowlers. I just have the feeling that when Jadeja comes in then one of the batsmen have to go."
