England fast bowler Mark Wood said he really enjoyed bowling at the bouncy pitches of the Narendra Modi Stadium in the ongoing five-match T20I series against India after helping the tourists to beat the hosts by 8-wickets in the third game on Tuesday (March 16) in Ahmedabad.
On Tuesday, England pacers Wood, Jofra Archer, and Chris Jordan were too tough to tackle for the Indian batsmen as they fiercely troubled the hosts with their fast and short balls on the bouncy wicket of Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in the third T20I.
Wood missed the second T20I, which England lost to India on Sunday and but returned with a bang in the third T20I, taking three early wickets to put the hosts under pressure as Team India could never recover from the point despite their captain Virat Kohli’s heroics with the bat (77* off 46 runs).
He first removed KL Rahul for a duck and then got rid of Rohit Sharma off a short delivery followed by Shreyas Iyer with a wide delivery to finish with 3/31.
His scalps along with Jos Buttler’s 83* guided England to an 8-wicket victory over the Indian team in the third T20I to take a 2-1 lead in the ongoing five-match T20I series.
Wood said at the post-match presentation in Ahmedabad on Tuesday: “My role in the team is to try and bang it on a good length and make something happen. The two pitches I've played on have a bit of bounce and I enjoyed those conditions.”
The right-arm pace bowler, who clocked close to 150 miles an hour, conceded 17 runs in his fourth over, as he couldn’t stop Kohli from hitting and he said it was great to test himself against the Indian captain.
Wood signed off by saying, “It's a shame that I went for runs in the last over, but credit to Virat. He is a fantastic player and is very hard to bowl at and he played some great shots in the end. It's good to play against great players and test yourself.”
