Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal became the highest T20I wicket-taker for the country leaving behind pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who is currently gone home for personal reasons.

The first T20I against England on Friday, March 12 was Chahal's 100th international match for India and one can say he's chosen a good occasion to lead the bowling charts for India in the shortest format of the game.

The 30-year-old now has 60 wickets in 46 T20Is at an average of 25.00, strike rate of 17.95 and an economy of 8.35 runs per over. He also has the second-best T20I bowling figures for India - 6/25. In ODIs, he has already scalped 92 wickets in 54 games at a bowling average of 27.29.

Bumrah, now the second highest T20I wicket-taker for India, has 59 wickets in 50 matches at an average of 20.25, strike rate of 18.2 and a brilliant economy of 6.66.

The first T20I had a personal milestone for Chahal but Team India had a poor outing at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. Put in to bat first, they could manage only 124/7 in their 20 overs on a batting track. England's pace battery was too hot to handle for the hosts as only one batsman, Shreyas Iyer (67), scored more than 25.

England chased down the total in the 16th over and took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Chahal will need to show his experience in the rest of the series and need support from the batsmen to give him runs to play with in order to come back well in the series.
