Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg while replying to a question on his Twitter handle said that Team India should bring R Ashwin in blue jersey as an all-rounder.
R Ashwin on Thursday became the second-fastest bowler to bag 400 wickets in the longest format of the game. The former achieved the milestone in 77 Tests and became only the fourth Indian bowler after Kapil Dev (434), Anil Kumble (619), and Harbhajan Singh (417) to claim 400 wickets in the longest format.
His purple patch in the red-ball cricket has given air to talks regarding his comeback for Team India in the limited-overs format.
The veteran off-spinner however, played his last white-ball game in 2017 against West Indies. Even though Ashwin has done well in the Indian premier league the selectors have not shown any interest to bring Ashwin back in the limited-overs format.
"If I get opportunity, I will give it my best shot," says R Ashwin on playing 2021 T20 World Cup
Seeing R Ashwin’s brilliant all-around performance in the ongoing four-match Test series between India and England, a fan asked Brad Hogg for his opinion on the ace off-spinner’s comeback in limited-overs.
“What is your opinion about it..After India vs England Test series, can Ravichandran Ashwin make a comeback in ODI cricket, can selector pick as a all Rounder into the team?” Fan tweeted.
Replying to which, former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg said that R Ashwin would be a great asset for Team Indin in blues and added that they should get him back.
“I think it is a great option, gives the batting line up extra depth allowing the top order to be more aggressive at the top and he is an wicket taking option with the ball, as well as economical. Get him back in,” Brad Hogg replied.
R Ashwin is currently the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing four-match Test series between India and England with 24 wickets.
