Regarded as one of the finest wicketkeepers India has produced, Farokh Engineer was all praises for the young Rishabh Pant and lauded his improved wicketkeeping skills, saying Pant originally had some technical flaws but he has practiced hard like MS Dhoni.
The wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh pant has always found himself in the firing line for his wicket-keeping skills and there are lots of talks whether he should be donning the gloves for Team India, particularly with someone like Wriddhiman Saha on the bench.
Many pundits including former Indian cricketer Farokh Engineer had earlier slammed Rishabh Pant for his poor show behind the stumps.
However, in the ongoing four-match Test series between India and England, Rishabh Pant has been a revelation with the gloves as the 23-years-old grabbed two stunners and delivered two acrobatic stumpings in the second Test match, and followed it with two more dismissals in the Ahmedabad Test.
Rishabh Pant has been exceptional behind the stumps and has impressed everyone with the way he kept for the likes of R Ashwin, Akshar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav on the pitches, that have offered some serious turn for the spinners.
Talking about Pant’s improved wicketkeeping skills, former Indian cricketer Farokh Engineer said that the latter reminds him of his younger days and added that Pant originally had some technical issues but he's practiced hard like MS Dhoni.
"Rishabh Pant reminds me of my younger days. He has vastly improved. He originally had some technical flaws. But he’s practiced hard like MS Dhoni. When he came on the scene, he wasn’t a great keeper. But he practiced and worked on his mistakes," Farokh Engineer told SportsKeeda.
Engineer lauded Rishabh Pant and said that the latter has all the three ingredients that makes a good wicketkeeper.
"Rishabh has a wonderful eye. A wonderful sense of balance and timing. These are the three ingredients for a wicket-keeper or a good cricketer," he said.
Engineer further said that Pant has everything in him to become a successful wicketkeeper.
"Rishabh Pant will be successful at whatever sport he plays. Because once you have a sense of timing, balance, and anticipation you can play any sport. Wicket-keeping certainly needs these three things, and Rishabh Pant has all of them." he concluded.
